In 1899, the French government established Dong Nai Thuong province (Province de Haut Donnai), the provincial capital located at Di Linh (Djiring).
In 1903, Dong Nai Thuong province was abolished and changed into Di Linh administrative agency, ruled by a representative of the Binh Thuan Ambassador.
In 1913, he joined Da Lat agent with Di Linh agent, collectively known as Di Linh agent and still in Binh Thuan province.
In 1916, Lam Vien province was established, including newly established Da Lat agent and Di Linh agent, separated from Binh Thuan province. The provincial capital is located in Da Lat, Lam Vien Province is also known as Langbiang or Lam Bien.

In 1958, the government of the Republic of Vietnam changed the name of Dong Nai Thuong province to Lam Dong province. At the same time, a part of land was separated and merged with Da Lat city. Established Tuyen Duc province. Lam Dong province consists of 2 districts Bao Loc (B'Lao) and Di Linh, the provincial capital is located in Bao Loc.
